SUMMARY:To The Sea With Her Names
DESCRIPTION:Mixed Media Exhibition: A group show by six Asian Artists \n“A name could be signified by a memory and in turn prompt a story\, it can compose identity\, or conjure character. This project’s aim is a group exhibition\, in a common site in Cyprus\, but also a name that has existed for hundreds of years\, thinking about the possibilities of resonating with foreign perspectives.\nArtists from diverse backgrounds will engage with local communities and look beyond borders. The artists not only work in local contexts\, but also trying to reply to the contemporary dilemmas common to the global.\nArtworks begin from the relationships developed in Cyprus\, exploring various dimensions like the role of the sea\, geopolitics\, historical diversity\, local industry\, and traditional crafts. From the artist’s memories and experiences in his own social relationships\, he summons different stories.\nThese stories look at the relationships and tensions hidden by the grand narrative\, such as the emotions erased by history\, the time lost in the wear\, the determination to preserve life in the conflicts and Political wrangling\, and so on. They are ambiguous\, irrelevant to directivity\, but discordant sounds\, ubiquitous\, and real\, mixed.\nThe repeated waves are like the cancellation and return of history\, and we hope to add diverse faces to the ocean of history through the flexibility and imagination characteristic of art.” – Shaoan Huang

SUMMARY:Home/ Hope
DESCRIPTION:International Guest Artists Exhibition. Part of the Parallel Events Program of Larnaca Biennale 2023. \nVisiting hours until November 24th\nMonday Closed\nTuesday – Friday 12:00 – 20:00\nSaturday – Sunday 10:00 – 20:00 \nHOME/HOPE is a capsule exhibition centred on notions of belonging\, identity and our dreams for the future at the Larnaca Biennale in Cyprus. Curated by Yev Kravt\, this exhibition features 30 guest artists\, all exploring the intricate theme of “home” from diverse perspectives. \nJust a single letter differentiates home from hope; but does the notion of home exist without hope\, and can hope truly surface without a place to call home? The subject of belonging opens up a myriad of stories\, told in a multitude of ways. Home is a world we create\, where we can unapologetically be ourselves. Hope\, meanwhile\, speaks to a world set free\, brimming with possibilities. Whether our aspirations are personal or collectively shared\, our inherent ambition to strive forward and evolve ushers in visions of a brighter tomorrow. \nHOME/HOPE explores these intertwined notions\, telling tales through the works of 30 selected artists. The exhibition takes cues from several pressing questions: how might the definition of home be changing? What constitutes hope? And crucially\, how do these separate concepts reinforce one another? \nThe exhibition includes contributions by 30 visual artists\, including: Andreas Kalli\, Armen Ter-Mkrtchyan\, Aukje Dekker with SEXYLAND\, Benji Boyadgian\, Danae Stratou\, Cengiz Bodur\, Droog x KesselsKramer\, George Stamenov\, Gohar Martirosyan\, Guy Ben-Ner\, HovHar\, Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige\, Maria Touloupou\, Melanie Bonajo\, Neo Matloga\, Olgaç Bozalp\, Pet Liger\, Raida Adon\, Rosana Palazyan\, Selma Selman\, Silvina Der-Meguerditchian\, Slavs and Tatars\, Sunny Dolat\, Tal Shochat\, Tania El Khoury\, Turan Aksoy\, Vyacheslav-Yura Useinov\, World Citizen Government and Yves Sambu. \nHome in this exhibition is not merely a physical space\, but an emotional\, cultural\, and sometimes virtual territory. It can be a refuge\, a distant dream\, an origin story\, or even an illusion. It’s often a place we go to find solace. In a globalised world\, our sense of home is fluid\, elusive and rich with potential. The HOME/HOPE exhibition spotlights new modes of (co)existence – and the boundless imagination that unites us\, wherever we may be. \nSpecial performances in the exhibition space. Aukje Dekker and the SEXYLAND Collective will perform The Sea by Night (14-15 October)\, while Raida Adon will perform during the opening (14 October). Tania El Khoury’s performance – As Far As My Fingertips Take Me takes place on the weekend of 14-15 October. \nSupport\nThe exhibition is supported by the Larnaca Biennale\, Foundation Brave New Works\, Ministry of Education\, Science Culture and Sport of the Republic of Armenia\, Embassy of Armenia to Cyprus\, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Philippossian & Pilossian Foundation\, ART For the World\, Armenian Arts Council in Yerevan and EMST National Museum of Contemporary Art in Athens (ΕΜΣΤ). \nOfficial Website

SUMMARY:Larnaka Biodesign Festival
DESCRIPTION:Larnaka BioDesign Festival invites us to look at the issues of sustainability and ecological responsibility completely outside the box. Combining the latest trends in bio-design\, art and academic research\, the festival fuels thinking and public debate about the materials we use in our homes\, clothes and cities. \nFor the first time\, Cyprus and Larnaka will host a festival of this kind\, entering with confidence into the international biodesign scene. It is time to start envisioning buildings made from mushrooms\, furniture and clothing from algae\, and shoes from wasted animal tissues. \nPRESENTING:\nMYCELIUM PAVILION exhibited at Zouhouri Square \nBuilt entirely out of agricultural waste and mushroom roots\, the pavilion serves as a symbol of innovation and sustainability. Following the structural example of the prehistoric settlement of Choirokoitia\, Dutch architect Stijn Dries and bioscientist Ivana Mik have built the first accessible self-supporting mycelium structure ever made of mycelial filaments that grows mainly under the soil. \nVisit Zouhouri Square between October 27th and November 5th and discover the unlimited potential of biodesign! \nEXHIBITION “BioSculpt: Co-Creating the Future” \nPresenting the works of internationally recognized designers and artists in the field of Biodesign. SUMMARY:The Bricks of Your Home
DESCRIPTION:In the history of mankind\, every age and every culture has been celebrated around the “table”. \nFrom the early Greek and Medieval celebrations\, up to our recent history\, the act of eating surpasses that of consuming\, wherein the meal itself becomes the medium through which the human and other-than-human\, the synthetic and the natural\, come together in one plate. \nSalt is present in every culture\, sparking every conversation\, bursting every emotion\, but most importantly is part of every one of us both bodily and spiritually. This performative dinner aims to invite the guests to discover the presence of salt around them\, within them and among them through the most routed act of housekeeping\, that of eating together. \nThe bricks of your home aims to explore and highlight the importance of salt as a primary and necessary element\, metaphorically connecting it with everyone’s food culture in order to narrate the direct link between the act of eating and home: nowadays living abroad is common for the younger generations for which the practice of preparing food represents a way of being Home away from Home. The event will be orchestrated around a series of special plates located directly on a set plane\, creating a surreal landscape\, and the guest will eat using the bricks as supports for the food. \nExact location will be revealed upon booking. \nThe Team: PLEISURE (Francesca Lantieri\, Valentina Fantini)\, Kyriacos Christofides\, Francesca Mussi\, John Mirabel \n  \nGET YOUR TICKETS

SUMMARY:Home Away From Home
DESCRIPTION:“What is it that constitutes a home\, beyond just bricks and mortar? Over the years and around the world\, we ‘ve grappled back and forth with the many meanings of this word. For this biennale\, I ‘ve set myself the task of unpacking notions of home and belonging – ideas that have shaped our lives and identities since birth. It will be filled with stories\, some particular\, some entirely universal\, which all give rise to our sense of self. I ‘m thrilled to extend the invitation to artists\, creators and makers of all varieties to join the conversation; submitting new propositions or revisiting existing work that considers this important theme.” Yev Kravt\, Curator Larnaca Biennale 2023 \nThis year’s curational theme\, “Home Away from Home”\, conceived by curator Yev Kravt prompted artists from around the world to submit their proposals\, resulting in the selection of 101 artworks that encapsulate the essence of the theme.\nLarnaca Biennale 2023 invites you to a kaleidoscope of diverse artistic stories weaving tales of identity\, belonging\, displacement\, and the quest for home in our evolving world. \nExhibition Venues \nMunicipal Art Gallery entrance free\nMonday – Friday 9:00-13:00 & 15:00-18:00\nSaturday 10:00-13:00 & 15:30-18:30\nSunday 15:30-18:30\n→ Map \nPierides Museum entrance free\nMonday- Thursday 09:00-16:00\nFriday 09:00-13:00\nSaturday 09:00-13:00 & 15:30-18:30\nSunday 15:30-18:30\n→ Map \nLarnaka Municipal Market entrance free \nMonday- Sunday 10:00 – 18:00\n1st Floor staircase and elevator access\n→ Map \nEVOHK – Artist Run Space entrance free\nMonday- Friday 9:00-13:00 & 15:00 – 18:00\nSaturday 10:00-13:00 & 15:30-18:30\nSunday 15:30-18:30\n→ Map \nLarnaka Medieval Castle entrance €2.50\nMonday – Friday 08:00-17:00\nSaturday – Sunday 09:30-17:00\n→ Map \nThe Living Room entrance free * MAIN INFO CENTER\nMonday – Sunday 10:00-18:00\n→ Map
