The second edition of Larnaca Biennale under the curational theme ‘ Limitless Limits’ took place with great success in Larnaca, Cyprus from October 13th 2021 until November 26th 2021.
The Larnaca Biennale 2021 international jury committee one day before the official opening of the second edition of Larnaca Biennale visited all exhibition places to view all artworks and performances leading to the following results that were announced upon the opening of the exhibition.
Winner
Lara Salmon (USA)
In this performance Lara Salmon, choreographed movements to rub salt from the Larnaca Salt Lake into her skin for three hours. Through the process of osmosis the salt absorbs water from her body. It takes on part of her as she becomes dehydrated. Following the performance, she returns the salt to its original location. This addition of her body’s water to the landscape speaks to the historically complex relationship she feel towards Cyprus.
Lara Salmon is the great-granddaughter of the director of the Cyprus Mining Company, which was the first foreign mining enterprise on the island during the colonial era.
